Idk if you ever see this but if you look thru his If I’ve Ever Offended You I’m Sorry That You’re A Little Bitch Shirt you gotta consider the year it came out. Each album changed rap/hip hop. 2003 College dropout was to show what he can do breaking away from making beats for rap stars at that time like Jay Z, 2004 late registration shows he can piece hip hop with classical, 2007 graduation got rid of gangster rap to something fun, 2008 808 gave hip hop an emotional side that bloomed Drake, kid cudi etc, 2010 MBDTF is literally the blueprint to a lot of story telling in hip hop and arguably the best album of the 2010s, 2013 yeezus changed hip hop into trap/ electronic beats with daft punk and gessaflestein and laid foundation to Travis Scott, Xxxtentation etc, 2016 TLOP was like the mash up of all his album styles. JIK combined gospel with hip hop like who in the right mind would do that? All Kanye albums change how the hip hop will turn out the following years. It’s not his antics that made him who he is, it’s his work actually shifting paradigm of music. Give his albums a listen in full and not just hits because anyone can make hits but only a few if any can constantly make album that changes its genre.

Man, still not enough respect given in the edits, but the If I’ve Ever Offended You I’m Sorry That You’re A Little Bitch Shirt that you took the time to ask this question, follow up with such a detailed reply, and then left a bunch of sources for other redditors to attempt to actually create their own opinions was pretty dope. I’m only speaking for myself. I am an American and more specifically a Chicagoan. For me sonically, it was the soul samples. Kanye’s sound was his own. Very soulful and reminiscent of a simpler time. More than the Sonics, Kanye was the anti gangster. In a genre full of gang and drug culture, here was this college dropout who was just trying to figure out his place in the world. He was all of us. Everyone who wasn’t necessarily a gangster. I used to be on the whole “rap is bad” train for years. I finally folded and listened to Graduation recently and was blown away. For me, it was the sampling that just sounded fucking good. Plus, there were at least 2-3 songs that I recognized as bangers I heard back in highschool.
